EGI Catch-all CA Services

The Scientific Computing Center of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki manages and operates the SEE-GRID Certification Authority which issues and manages digital certificates for Grid services and users under the auspices of the Greek NGI GRNET.

SEE-GRID CA provides catch-all CA services for EGI and collaborating countries. SEE-GRID CA is a member of the International Grid Trust Federation (IGTF) and it is accredited by the European Grid Policy Management Authority (EUGridPMA).

Certificate Policy and Certification Practice Statement (CP/CPS)

The current version of the SEE-GRID CA CP/CPS is version 2.0.

  • Version 2.0: This is the latest version of the SEE-GRID CA CP/CPS that has been accredited by EUGridPMA/IGTF
  • Version 1.1: Superseded by v2.0 of the CP/CPS
  • Version 1.0: Superseded by v1.1 of the CP/CPS

Trust Anchors

Trust Anchors (TAs) are cryptographic public keys used for digital signing of other public keys and some additional meta data associated with those public keys (e.g. X.509 digital certificates of Certification Authorities (CAs)) or other data

The CA certificate and CRLs are needed in order to correctly verify the validity of a certificate that has been issued by the SEE-GRID CA.

Brief History

On July 2004, the Scientific Computing Center of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, setup the SEE-GRID Certification Authority, in order to facilitate the needs for Grid computing in the wider area of the Balkans. The initial goal of the SEE-GRID CA was to provide PKI services to the SEE countries – members of the SEE-GRID project – that did not have the opportunity to establish their own national grid PKI infrastructure.

Since 2010 and the transition to the European Grid Infrastructure (EGI) the SEE-GRID CA operates as a catch-all CA for EGI and collaborating countries that do not have an established national PKI service.
